In the parking lot of the A34 (the motorway between Reims and Charleville-Mézières), 10km north of Rethel, this gigantic wild boar is worth stopping for a while. From the highway already visible but its true glory is only to experience when you take the trouble to leave the highway.
Ex-metalworker/sculptor, Eric Sléziak, a man from the Meuse Valley, created Woinbnic, a giant wild boar in het workshop in Bogny-sur-Meuse.
Nearly 10 metres high, 14 metres long and 5 metres wide, 50.000 kg of metal, 6500 kg of solcer and over 12.000 work hours by its creatjor. This achievement required 430 coils of solder and 328 bottles of gas.
The name "Woinic"is the contration of nickname of the father ande the name of the mother of the sculptor: Woidouche and Nicole.
Started on 1ste January 1983 ths colossal monument was terminatede 11 years later in 1993.
The wild boar left the workshop in August 2008 to arrive at its destination just off the Ardennes motorway exit on 8the August 2008.
